My SNPhA Story
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for viewing my page. This page explains a bit more about how I became involved in SNPhA!
The beginning
P1 year
During my first semester of my P1 year, I was unsure on what organization I wanted to join. I wanted an organization that was focused on community outreach and helping those that were in need. It was at the membership drive where I was able to see that SNPhA aligned to all my values. After joining SNPhA, I was elected as P1 liaison. In this role, I was able to see the inner workings of an organization that had so many passionate and creative members. I was inspired to become the Global Health/Immigration chair where I was able to host my first health screening with the Alabama Coalition of Immigrant Justice. I was able to see firsthand my reach in helping communities that just immigrated here.
More and More
P2 year and so forth
As a Hispanic pharmacy student, I've always had a passion for those struggling with language barriers. I felt there was need to provide resources and encourage students to communicate with patients that only spoke Spanish. One of my passion projects was to help organize a Spanish Clinical Pharmacy Crash Course meeting where I provided students with laminated pharmacy notes in Spanish and had one of my faculty members Dr. Jumbo lead a presentation about common Spanish phrases to help our students counsel on medications.
First National Convention
In July 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia, I attended my first SNPhA National Convention where I was in awestruck at the large scale of SNPhA's reach. I underwent professional workshops and had the opportunity to meet other students from other chapters. I love getting to know other pharmacy students.
The rest is history
Region 2 Conference in Washington, D.C.
This is the conference that changed everything for me.
I attended the VP Roundtable event that Tatiana Hines hosted. There I took the opportunity to learn about SNPhA's national positions. I enjoy my position as Vice President but I was inspired to apply myself at a greater capacity.
